DEV.to Integration Guide
The ZyVOP DEV.to adapter syndicates your Markdown articles to DEV.to using the official DEV REST API (api/articles).
Prerequisites & API Key
- Log in to DEV.to.
- Go to Settings → Extensions (dev.to/settings/extensions).
- Scroll down to DEV Community API Keys.
- Generate a new API key with a descriptive description (e.g.
ZyVOP Publisher). - Copy your key and add it in ZyVOP Integrations.
How ZyVOP Formats for DEV.to
1. Tag Sanitization & Limits
DEV.to permits a maximum of 4 tags. ZyVOP takes your first 4 tags and normalizes them:
- Converted to lowercase alphanumeric characters and hyphens.
- Strips punctuation and leading/trailing dashes.
2. Mermaid Diagram Conversion
DEV.to does not render Mermaid blocks natively in its Markdown parser. ZyVOP automatically detects triple-backtick mermaid blocks and compiles them into hosted high-resolution PNG images before dispatching to DEV.to.
3. Liquid Tag Safety
DEV.to crashes if a Series title contains literal parentheses ( or ). ZyVOP automatically sanitizes series titles by replacing () with square brackets [] to prevent Liquid syntax crashes.
4. Canonical Tag
DEV.to places your canonical_url directly into its rendered HTML <head> tag:

When you update an article in ZyVOP, the adapter sends a PUT request to update the live DEV.to post in place without altering its URL or losing existing DEV reactions, bookmarks, and comments.
If the internal remote ID was lost, ZyVOP's Automatic Article ID Recovery queries your DEV article list to locate the match by canonical URL before falling back to creating a new post.
