The ZyVOP Mastodon adapter broadcasts new article announcements to any ActivityPub / Mastodon instance (e.g. fosstodon.org, hachyderm.io, mastodon.social).
Platform Availability
Mastodon cross-posting is currently managed directly through the ZyVOP Web Dashboard. CLI command-line toggles for Mastodon will be introduced in an upcoming release.
Authentication with Access Token
Because Mastodon is federated, you must specify your specific instance URL:
- Log in to your Mastodon instance (e.g.
https://hachyderm.io). - Go to Preferences → Development → New Application.
- Set Application Name to
ZyVOP. - Grant the
write:statusesandwrite:mediascopes. - Click Submit, then open the application to view your Access Token.

How ZyVOP Formats for Mastodon
1. 500-Character Weighted Truncation
Standard Mastodon instances allow 500 characters. In Mastodon's calculation, every URL consumes exactly 23 characters regardless of length. ZyVOP calculates weighted string lengths to ensure posts never exceed instance limits.
2. Idempotency Keys
ZyVOP sends an Idempotency-Key: zyvop-crosspost-<postId> header with every dispatch. If a network timeout occurs during dispatch, retries will not produce duplicate toots on your timeline.
3. Hashtag Conversion
Article tags are automatically converted into PascalCase hashtags (e.g. #TypeScript, #WebDev) placed at the end of the toot to enhance discoverability in the Fediverse.
